Vital Information for Fresh International Undergraduate Students

2016/2017 Academic Year


All fresh international undergraduate students are expected to arrive between September 12 and September 17, 2016.

Airport pick up service will be provided by the International Programmes Office for fresh international undergraduate students during the stipulated dates.

For this service, kindly send flight details via nspips@ug.edu.gh before September 9, 2016.

The Hostels will only be opened to students from August 12, 2016. Students should therefore plan to arrive from this date. Students who arrive after September 17 may flag down an airport cab (taxi) located close to the Arrivals’ Hall, to convey them to their respective destinations. (Kindly note the cab registration number).

Taxis can be identified by their amber-coloured licensed plate. All admitted students should kindly note that, the taxi fare could be between thirty and forty Ghana Cedis (GHC30 – GHC40).


Payment of Fees

Fees must be paid in US dollars. This may be done online , by wire or by direct deposit as outlines below. Should you choose to make payment by wire or direct deposit, kindly ensure that your name and student ID number are clearly witten on the pay-in-slip. Your pay-in-slip will be required for registration.

  • Housing will be provided at the International Student's Hostel (ISH) until all beds are allocated.
  • Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs and wardrobes. Students are required to provide for themselves linen, pillows and other required items.

International Programmes Office shall organize MANDATORY orientation sessions fresh international students daily from September 12 to September 19, 2016 at the Seminar room (Ground Floor, Right Wing) of the International House located on the Annie Jiagge Road, opposite the School of Law building from 12:30pm to 1:30pm (on weekdays).

The university's main orientation for all fresh students starts on Wednesday, September 14 to Saturday, September 17, 2016. Note that this is also mandatory for all fresh students.



Students are to report for registration at the International Programmes Office from September 12 to September 19, 2016 with the following:

  •  Copy of admission letter
  •  Proof of payment of fees or wire transfer details
  •  One passport sized photograph
  • Students who do not have photographs in the database will be requried to provide passport sized photographs of their full face during registration. ID cards may later be collected from the International Programmes Office


Teaching / Examination

Teaching begins on September 19, 2016. Examinations would start on January 4 and end on January 17, 2017.



Students are expected to attend a mandatory matriculation on October 8, 2016.


Welcome durbar

International Programmes Office will organize a welcome durbar for fresh International Students on October 15, 2016.


Non- Citizen Ghana Card

Kindly note that all eligible foreign nationals living in Ghana are required by law to register and have a Non-Citizen Card.

The Non-Citizen Card is a national identity card for internationals which costs US$120. It is a requisite for obtaining a Residence Permit. Please ensure you get this from the National Identification Authority Offices as soon as you arrive in Ghana. For more information please visit: http://www.fims.org.gh/m/aboutusdoc.


Other Information

Ghana uses the UK’s BS 1363 standard for plugs and sockets. This uses the 3 pin system and has a voltage of 240 volts. Please take note of this when bringing any electrical appliances, especially chargers for mobile phones.
