Course content

GEOG 342 is an examination of the science of climatology. The course puts emphasis on the processes that govern the Earth's climate rather than on the statistics of the climate itself. The course covers the flow of energy, mass, and water in the atmosphere as driven by incoming solar radiation and mediated by the basic physics of the Earth system.

Teaching

The class format consists of formal lectures of two hours per week. Lecture notes will be given in the form of power point presentation to accompany the required and other recommended texts. Students are also encouraged to add outside readings.

Formative coursework

Attendance is expected for all scheduled classes and the University of Ghana rules on class attendance shall be enforced. [Please refer to UG undergraduate handbook on class attendance policy.]

There will be an interim assessment which will constitute 30% of the grade

A final examination will be conducted at the end of the semester and will constitute 70% of the total grade.
