VITAL INFORMATION FOR VISITING STUDENTS 
1ST SEMESTER, 2024/2025 ACADEMIC YEAR

ARRIVAL

➢     All visiting students are expected to arrive from Friday September 20- Sunday September 22, 2024.

➢     Airport pick up service will be provided by the International Programmes Office for visiting students during the stipulated dates. For this service, kindly send flight details to assip@ug.edu.gh on or before September 13, 2024. Please note that airport pick up will be in three sessions so we advise students to please keep this in mind when booking their flights. The Sessions are:

  • Morning Session: 10:00 AM GMT
  • Afternoon Session: 2:00PM GMT
  • Evening Session:  7:00 PM GMT

The Hostels will only be opened to students from September 20, 2024. Students should therefore plan to arrive from this date.

PAYMENT OF FEES
All students are expected to pay their fees in full prior to registration. Proof of payment of fees will be required before students can register at the International Programmes Office (IPO), International House. 

ACCOMMODATION

➢     Housing will be provided at the International Students’ Hostel (ISH).
➢     Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs and wardrobes. Students are required to provide for themselves linen, pillows and toiletries. These can be bought from stores on-campus.

ORIENTATION
International Programmes Office will organize a mandatory orientation programme for visiting international students on September 24 at 9am. This will take place at the auditorium inside the International House.  The orientation will focus on course registration, immigration, university policies, health, security and accommodation. This will be followed with a campus tour.

REGISTRATION
Students are to report for manual and course registration at the International Programmes Office on September 25 with the following:
➢    Original copy of proof of fee payment 
➢    Proof of medical insurance  
➢    One passport sized photograph

ACCRA CITY TOUR AND CULTURAL TRIP

As part of the mandate of IPO, we will organize an Accra city tour for visiting international students on Saturday, September 28, 2024 and a cultural tour to the Eastern region on Saturday October 12, 2024.

TEACHING / EXAMINATION 

➢     Teaching begins on Tuesday, October 01. Examinations will start on Saturday, January 11, 2025 and end on Sunday, February 02, 2025.  

➢     Students with special needs should note that they are to send the necessary medical documentation to the IPO Exams Coordinator via her email address:( ipoexamscoordinator@ug.edu.gh) or in person at her office. This should be done latest by two weeks after arrival on campus.

NON- CITIZEN GHANA CARD
➢     Please note that all eligible foreign nationals living in Ghana are required by law to register and have a Non-Citizen Card.

➢     The Non-Citizen Card is a national identity card for internationals which costs US$120 for the first issue for a period of one year. It is a legal requirement to have a residence permit, the cost of obtaining the residence permit is included in your school fees paid to the University. 

➢     Please note that the International Programmes Office will be providing the necessary assistance to facilitate the acquisition of the card. For more information please click here

OTHER INFORMATION
Ghana uses the UK’s BS 1363 standard for plugs and sockets. This uses the 3 pin system and has a voltage of 240 volts. Kindly take note of this when bringing any electrical appliances, especially chargers for mobile phones.
