Oral Communication Skills

Availability

This course is available open to all visiting students but only as a second semester course.

 

Course Content

This course will build on CHIN 101 and CHIN103, it will emphasize the acquisition of the most basic oral expressions and sentences about student’s family, friends and preferences as well as information about their everyday life. This course will practise at least 150 Chinese sentence for everyday usages, words and related compounds will also be added on the repertoire acquired in CHIN 101 and CHIN103. Students will also be introduced to basic sentence structures of Mandarin Chinese. Students are expected to gain their knowledge of conversation, especially some knowledge about basic oral expressions. They will also learn some knowledge about organizing their expression in fluent Chinese, talking about family, friends and hobbies. They will gain some commonly used Chinese sentences to enable basic conversation.

 

Teaching

Wednesday, 1:30pm- 03:20pm for 12 weeks.

 

Presentation of the topics takes the form of a lecture and discussion on set topics. Students are required to read course materials before the class session it is assigned for. The Lecturer will not repeat the reading; usually, lectures will involve illustrating selected points by working through pieces of data. Students are expected to come prepared to discuss, with their questions that arise out of the reading.

 

Formative Coursework

Student’s general performance is assessed through class participation, group presentations, written assignment, class tests and final end-of Semester Examination.

Assessment and Grading

Evaluation will be based on a continued assessment which will constitute 30% and a final end of semester examination which will constitute 70%.
