Course Content

This is a workshop type course intended for a small group of students, each with a keen interest, a strong aptitude and/or demonstrable talent for creative writing. It systematically explores creative writing with emphasis on short fiction, certain nonfiction genres and poetry as a basis for sharpening the students' creative talents.

By the end of the course, students should have a firm grasp of the rudiments of creative writing and be able to present portfolios on short fiction, non-fiction (memoir, auto/biography, portrait), and poetry. They should also be able to develop competence in the use of language as the fundamental tool for the expression of the creative talent. Finally, students should sharpen their critical skills well enough to critique their own works as well as those of other writers.
