This course is available open to all visiting students but only as a second semester course.
Course Content
This course is a continuation of Arabic Grammar and Translation I. It deals with more syntactic structures and basic grammatical rules of the Arabic language. It also entails translating and analyzing simply selected texts highlighting Arabic grammatical rules. The course focuses on the forms of tenses in Arabic, Arabic sentence types, their components, and characteristics. Students will be introduced to basic parsing (I’rab) of Arabic sentences.
Teaching
Fridays, 9:30- 11:30 am for 13 weeks.
The course will be delivered mainly through lectures, tutorials and power point presentations. SAKAI will be used intermittently to supplement physical classes. Lectures will be interactive to engage students in order to achieve maximum students’ participation as possible. Class exercise will be given regularly.
Formative Coursework
Student’s general performance is assessed through class participation, group presentations, written assignment, class tests and final end-of Semester Examination.
Students are to take note of the following information:
- Participation: Since the course employs a communicative approach to language learning, active participation in class is always required.
- Assignments: Students are advised to do and present assignments on time in order to get feedback in the next class
- Students are to speak Arabic especially in class unless otherwise permitted by the instructor
