TEXT-BASED ORAL EXPRESSION

Availability

This course is available open to all visiting students but only as a second semester course.

Course Content

In this course, students will be taught the basic principles of oral text analysis. The techniques for text analysis will enable student appreciate the text by clearly stating its theme, problem and how the author address concern over the issues raised in the text. Students will be taught techniques to spell out the explicit and the implicit of a text and be able to finally draw acceptable conclusion. Students will be expected to state their own view of the text.

Teaching

Wednesdays, 7.50 am to 9.50 pm

Mode of presentation: Lectures, tutorials, oral presentations and discussions will constitute the mode of lectures. Facilities in the Multimedia Room and la Maison Française can be accessed by students.

Formative Coursework

Evaluation is based on 30% Continuous Assessment and 70% final examination (totaling 100%). 

As a language, the study of french requires daily practice. Students are therefore encouraged to learn and engage in french conversation among themselves. Students are advised to read the text books on their own, apply the techniques for official letter writing to write letters in the topic given during lectures and tutorial. Students are encouraged to learn french grammar by reading Grammar books and attempt various grammar exercises proposed below.

Students must listen to RFI (Radio France International), a French radio. Students can also watch TV5, a French television channel to boost the oral and written expressions.
