Availability

This course is available open to all visiting students but only as a second semester course.

Course Content

The module will provide the student with knowledge about the major complementary alternative medicine including African Traditional Medicine. There will be comparative study of both orthodox and traditional medicine with emphasis on advantages and disadvantages of both systems. Students will also be made aware of recent developments in phytotherapy and herbal medicine. This will be achieved through illustration of phytotherapy of specific chronic and acute diseases with selected medicinal plants and herbal preparations

Teaching

 Mondays 3:00pm – 5:00pm and Wednesdays 8:00am – 8:55am for 13 weeks

The format will consist of lectures, demonstrations, and discussions. Student participation is vital to the success of the course and may contribute to grades. Each major topic is followed by a tutorial to enhance students’ understanding of topics treated. Completion of tutorials is highly encouraged.

Formative Coursework

There will be practical Lab Reports, Practical Interim Assessment and Practical Exams at the end of the semester.
