15th March 2020.

Dear International partners and students:

Due to the global threat of COVID-19, the Government of Ghana’s directives, the University of Ghana is closed until further notice.  This means that all international members of our community are permitted to return to their home countries with the exception of anyone who has any symptoms of the common cold.  Such students should first be examined and cleared by UG Health Services before they can leave.  Please contact your programme coordinators and the numbers below for now.  These will be updated periodically.

However, the International Programmes Office and the International Students hostel on Legon campus will remain open until further notice.   All International students on the University’s other campuses will also be permitted to remain in residence until further notice.  Programme coordinators who live off campus will be permitted to come onto campus, but they, their family members, and any students who reside on any of the University of Ghana campuses should follow the health and movement protocols for the entire university, especially with reference to international travel. Any student, programme officer, staff or a family member who travels outside Ghana while the university and the country’s current restrictions on travel are in force, will not be permitted back on to campus until they have completed the 14-day mandatory self-quarantine period.

Updated measures regarding travel, classes and assessments will be shared with you all as we monitor the situation.  Some classes may be carried on remotely, for others it may not be possible to do so given the discipline/subject matter and other requirements of the course.  This will be addressed on a case by case basis and the International Programmes Office will be in touch with you all on this in the coming days based on the contact information we have for you on file.
